Wifi wimax, these two standard become question what is the different and in what situation we use them and how we can combine this technology to build better user experience. Wifi(802.11 standard) and wimax(802.16 standard) actually don’t compete for user broadband connectivity in now days. Wifi itself nowdays already widely used by users as last mile technologies. And Wimax now start developed in some country but not yet widely use as wifi already done.
We can see the different of this technology into some methods, there are: Family, primary use, Radio technology, Downlink and uplink. First of all we can see the max reach of these two technology. Wifi can only reach 100 meters, but wimax can access up to 8 KM for 802.16d standard, and 5KM for 802.16e standard. With the wide range of Wimax, it use to provide broadband connectivity from central to far area. Wifi used only for small area. But we can combine wimax together with wifi, information can transfer from central to far area with wimax and then distribute locally with wifi.
